Children's Residential Senior Support Worker

Key tasks:

 The Senior support worker will work closely with the Team Leader and Manager in the running of the homes and in supporting other team members. You will be responsible for newly referred YPs and assume lead roles in the homes/primary locations – ensure that high quality, person-centred support is provided for all supported young people within the homes.

 To work in a sensitive, flexible and non-judgemental way and within an equal opportunities' framework.

 To implement the processes of assessment of support needs (support and risk management plans) and to work with the staff team to provide a person-centred service which meets the needs of all service users.

 To build up good strategic relationships with Local Authority, Housing Departments, the DSS/Benefits Agency, and other appropriate local organisations in the area.

 To be responsible for the Health and Safety ofstaff and service users whilst on shift.

 To be aware of and work within Aden Homes Health and Safety policy at all times and to report any issues of concern.

 To ensure that service users are able to participate in all areas of service delivery and that all services are accessible and relevant to their needs and to promote service user participation by providing information, advice and choices to enable individuals to participate more fully in daily decisions relating to them.

 Ensure good communication channels are established and maintained to facilitate joint working between placement staff Team and LA professional/external agencies.

 To ensure that Aden Homes Equality and Diversity Policy and Procedures are actively promoted in all areas of work and that services are relevant and accessible to all individuals.

 To be aware of and adhere to all relevant financial procedures and to report any discrepancies to the manager immediately.

 To provide written reports and information as requested local authorities.

 To work within and promote all of Policies and Procedures.

 To work at other locations as and when required, but primarily at locations where they perform lead roles

.  To work flexible hours as appropriate to the needs of the service.

 To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Service Manager.

 To perform such other duties such as reasonably may be required.

DUTIES:

 Working under the direction of the Service Manager and actively contribute to the provision of quality care, within which the health, welfare, education and development of young people is promoted and to promote a coherent ethos of care consistent with the overall culture of the company and the homes statement of purpose.

 To contribute towards the maintenance of a positive,safe and homely environment, including the promotion of a warm and accepting atmosphere, where the safety and care of young people is paramount. Working with the Service Manager to ensure proper and appropriate nurturing for all young people with particular attention to the provision of primary care in matters of food, health, clothing and environment, etc.

 Work proactively with the Service Manager in supporting the staff team to plan the daily routine and follow the agreed structures of the house, to include for example day to day parenting responsibilities, undertaking daily household responsibilities such as domestic chores, cooking, shopping, taking young people to appointments/meetings, planning out the day and participation in activities with the young people and supporting in homework.

 To work with the holistic staff team to build positive and appropriate working relationships with the young people.

 To work in partnership with parents, social workers, agencies and other professionals linked to the young person’s care plan to effectively fulfil the responsibility of parenting the young people, ensuring the maintenance of family contact where appropriate.

 As directed by the Service Manager, undertake keyworker responsibility for individual young people in the house focusing on the specific needs identified in the care plan. Contribute to the writing of the care plan, implementing and monitoring progress.

 To support and monitor young people throughout the 24-hour shift system as directed.

 To follow and act in accordance with all relevant aspects of legislation, regulation, and the company’s Policies and Procedures. Ensure own understanding of how such issues are interpreted and followed in practice, keeping up to date with changes.

 To work collectively with team members and advise on using effective care practice,

descalating and diversionary strategies and recognised techniques to manage young people who exhibit challenging, threatening and confrontational behaviour. Consistently act in accordance with company Behaviour Management policy and ensure appropriate recording of incidents.

 Working in conjunction with team members to ensure the creation and maintenance of a culture, which shows in practice and knowledge an understanding of the differing cultural, racial and religious needs of young people. Work constructively to enhance the positive value of working with difference to challenge attitudes and practice, which are inappropriate or unacceptable within the ethos of the house.

 To assume responsibility for the operation of the home when acting as shift leader. Take the lead in decision making, ensure paperwork is completed to the required standards, and ensure effective handovers take place between the home and school and at the beginning and end of each shift.

 Undertake appropriate training, including workshops and refresher training in specified areas as identified by the Home Manager.

The regulatory standards require all care staff to be qualified. In order to meet these, the home will support you to undertake the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare when you successfully pass your probationary period. It is a condition of your employment that you undertake and satisfactorily complete the level 3 social care Diploma within two years of your start date. The Level 3 Diploma is a requirement of the role, if you fail to achieve the Diploma, do not complete it within the prescribed timescale, refuse to undertake it or are withdrawn from the Diploma, it will prevent you from continuing in this role.

 Attend training on “off shift” as and when the need requires.

 To fully abide by and follow all the company’s Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective working practices for the staff, young people and people visiting the premises.

 Take responsibility for a designated area of work, or practice development as directed by the Service Manager.

 To carry out any other appropriate duties as requested/assigned by the Service Manager.

 To perform such other duties such as reasonably may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support team leader and service manager in coordinating day-to-day activities within the allocated service area/home.

 Ensure that all services are delivered within the framework of the Homes core values and in line with Policies and Procedures.

 To ensure that services are of high standards which meets and exceeds standards set by regulatory bodies and contractual obligations.

 Ensure recording of observations are satisfactorily done within content and description in relations to staff records, management returns and maintaining records, as required.

 Liaise with external professionals, individuals and families as required to ensure that the needs of the service users are reviewed regularly and plans developed so that we continue to meet their needs.

 Support service managers to ensure the completion of weekly/monthly audits. Ensure good practice.

 Ensure that appropriate person-centred support arrangements are in place for each individual supported and reviewed i.e., that risk assessment and support plans are completed for each YP as per policy.

 Ensure that the placements are safe environment and that we create opportunities for activities which promotes the wellbeing and the personal development of service users, taking into account practical, physical and emotional needs.

 Actively promote and support inclusion, ensuring that individuals are supported to participate in community, work & educational opportunities according to their interests and wishes.

 Liaise with external Agencies as appropriate and ensure that contact between the staff team and those Agencies is conducted in a professional manner.

 Ensure that proper record and administrative systems are in place within the home, as required by Policy & Procedures, and Statutory Authorities.

 Ensure all incident reporting is in line with the Local Authority’s requirements.

 Be accountable for the management of the Home’s petty cash and any monies/valuables belonging to service users kept within the home.

 Ensure that maintenance and equipment renewal needs are communicated to the service manager, obtaining costings/quotes where appropriate, and then ordering items/services once authorised.

 Support service managers in providing coaching and mentoring to team members.

 Ensure that all steps are taken to maintain the health of each individual living within the home, including compliance to homes health and safety requirements and Health & Safety Legislation. All staff also have a duty to ensure they comply with requirements under the Protection of Vulnerable Adults and Children. Support in management of teams and individuals.

 Contribute to the recruitment process by inducting new staff following Policy.

 Support team members in line with Policies and Procedures to improve in their job and delivery of service to clients.

 Promote and support effective team working through good communication. Identify individual team members developmental needs and liaise with service managers to provide learning support to team members.

 Participate in the Service on-call management system as required.

 Ensure that good communication networks are maintained within the home, upwards within management structure, and sideways to relevant others. Additional Duties.

 Work flexibly across all Homes to meet the needs of the services, carrying out shifts if necessary and as required.

 Undertake additional activities such as attendance of meetings/training days and involvement in project groups to further individual and organisational goals as required.

 Undertake any other staff as required by the service.
